ß-Carotene has an important function in the fertility of dairy cows. It exerts its effect in the ovary where higher amounts of ß-Carotene are required for  ovulation. After ovulation ß-Carotene promotes progesterone  synthesis  which is required to sustain the corpus luteum and thus ensure the maintenance of the pregnancy.
